Police raid uncovers $130m worth of ice in suitcases

POLICE have seized more than 135kg of ice in suitcases after a raid on an inner-city Melbourne apartment on Tuesday.

The raid, part of a joint federal police and crime commission operation, Eligo national taskforce, also led to four Taiwanese men being arrested this week.

On Tuesday, AFP and ACC officers completed four raids across Victoria, finding four suitcases filled with about $130 million of methylamphetamine, equal to about 1.3 million street-level deals.

ACC national manager of investigations Richard Grant said the raids came about due to intelligence provided through the Eligo taskforce, which has been tracking illicit money flows.

The raids resulted in a 23 year old, 29 year old, 20 year old and 24 year old Taiwanese nationals being arrested on a raft of charges including possessing commercial quantities of a border-controlled drug.

Police reported the men were due to face court in Melbourne over the offences, which carry a maximum penalty of life in prison.
