Police chase through Grafton Shoppingworld ends in handcuffs

A POLICE chase through Grafton Shoppingworld has ended with the arrest of a 23-year-old Grafton man.

It is believed officers were called to a Villiers St address about 5.30pm yesterday following reports of a domestic violence incident.

When they arrived, a man fled the scene on foot, running onto Fitzroy St and through a Grafton Shoppingworld entry.

Police chased him through the food court and down a travelator to the underground carpark, where he was handcuffed and arrested without further incident.

After being taken to Grafton Police Station he complained of breathing difficulties and was transferred to Grafton Base Hospital under police guard.

He was assessed before being driven back to the station.

He has been charged with aggravated break and enter to commit a serious indictable offence, larceny, assault, intimidation and trespass offences, and did not apply for bail in Grafton Local Court today.

It will be alleged by police that the man attended the Villiers St premises to force his way inside the house.

He is expected to reappear before the Grafton Local Court on August 2.
