Pioneers systematically shred Casino with 64-0 thrashing
WOLLONGBAR-Alstonville put in a clinical performance when they beat Casino 64-0 in the final round of Far North Coast Rugby Union at Albert Park, Casino on Saturday.
Five-eighth Ben Damen and winger Penaia Leatigaga each bagged a try-scoring double as the Pioneers ran in 10 tries.
They now shift their focus to the major semi-final against Lismore City at Lyle Park, Wollongbar on Saturday.
"It was a good hit-out before the finals.
"The next three weeks is what you train all season for," Damen said.
"We're looking forward to the challenge ahead and we know what Lismore possess and what we need to bring.
"It was good to give the second graders a run (against Casino); they haven't played for the past two weeks."
In other games, Bangalow finished its season on a high with a 47-7 win against Southern Cross University at Maurie Ryan Oval, Lismore.
Centre Oliver James scored a hat-trick, and Otulea Fifita, Will Latham and Jake Brumley were also among the try scorers.
Bangalow finish fifth for the second consecutive season after coming into the top grade last year.
Elsewhere, Lennox Head and Ballina were washed out at Williams Reserve, Lennox Head.
The teams are set to play each other in the minor semi-final at Quays Reserve, Ballina on Sunday.
Byron Bay and Grafton Redmen was also washed out at Stan Thompson Oval, Brunswick Heads.
