RUGBY SEVENS: The Olympic champion Australian women's sevens side wants to build on its Rio gold and create a legacy in the game.

Emma Tonegato said the team aimed to stay undefeated before the Tokyo Games in 2020.

"We want to show we are champions and that we are here to stay,” Tonegato said.

"We want to start a dynasty for our sport; to show that we are a real force.

"The goal is to try and win everything we can before Tokyo.”

A new-look Australian team's next objective is round one of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai next weekend.

The Pearls have been training daily in high heat to prepare themselves for the Dubai opener of the 10-leg Sevens World Series.

Tonegato said the major goal for the side in 2017 was the Sydney leg in February, with women competing alongside the men's teams at the event for the first time.

"We want to show the ARU that we can pull crowds, that people want to watch us,” she said.

"It's a chance for us to prove we can also be profitable.”
