Outcome due in Bangalow child pornography case

A BANGALOW man who pleaded guilty to 15 child pornography-related charges will be sentenced in June.

Adam Walter Meads did not appear at the Lismore District Court earlier this month, but was represented by his barrister Megan Cusack and her advising solicitor Ian McKay.

Ms Cusack said she had been liaising with the Director of Public Prosecutions about the sentencing.

"The 19th of June seems to be a suitable date," she said.

"The estimate is two hours, your honour. His bail is refused. He was due to appear on AVL (audio visual link) but that can be cancelled."

Ms Cusack requested Meads be brought to court in person for the sentencing.

When he was arrested last August, police said Meads was in possession of a mobile phone containing 370 videos and 2200 child pornography-related images.

Initially, Meads faced 37 child pornography charges related to alleged child sex offences against 11 victims.

In March, when Mr McKay entered guilty pleas to 10 charges of using a carriage service to solicit child pornography, the prosecution withdrew most of the remaining charges.

In June, Meads will be sentenced on those 10 charges plus two counts of using a carriage service to transmit or publish child porn, two counts of producing child abuse material, one count of using a carriage service to send indecent material to a person less than 16, and also failing to comply with reporting conditions.

Judge Anthony Blackmore SC adjourned Meads' matters for sentence until June 19 at the Lismore District Court.
