Opera singer's last MasterChef song
LIKE A tragic aria, Clarissa Dodawec's MasterChef dreams came to a dramatic end tonight.
The opera singer was eliminated from the cooking show after leaving a layer out of Bernard Chu's seven-layer Lolly Bag Cake.
Despite Andrew Prior putting too much eucalyptus oil in his spearmint buttercream layer, Dodawec was sent home for failing to replicate the dish.
In contrast, Christina Batista presented an "almost" perfect cake to the judges and was clearly beaming with pride when they cut into the cake to discover the neatly arranged layers.
Dodawec, Prior and Batista landed in the bottom three after losing an egg whisking challenge against their fellow blue team mates.
The blue team lost Tuesday's school canteen challenge featuring celebrity chefs Curtis Stone and Shannon Bennett.
Dodawec was the first woman to be eliminated from the show's fifth series, which began with a "battle of the sexes" competition.
She said she was proud of making it into the Top 22.
"It's been incredible. It's an extraordinary process I'll never forget," she said.
In the style of a true performer, she bid farewell to the MasterChef kitchen with a song and a bow.
The 44-year-old plans to offer cooking classes in a range of cuisines from her home.
"There's such an honesty to making something with your own hands," she said.
MasterChef continues tomorrow at 7.30pm on Ten.
