Ex-One Nation Senator 'assaulted' outside court

WA SENATOR Rod Culleton has been taken to hospital with suspected broken bones after an alleged assault outside Perth Magistrate's Court.

PerthNow reported Senator Culleton appeared in court earlier today for a restraining order hearing involving his former associates Bruce Bell and Frank Bertola.

Another man tried to hand documents to Senator Culleton outside court when the case was adjourned about 10.30am.

Senator Culleton refused to take hold of the papers as they were repeatedly thrust at him.

He fell heavily to the ground outside a near carpark during the melee.

Sky News reported he was allegedly taken to hospital with broken bones after the scuffle.

Senator Culleton's wife and son came to his aid as one of his supporters pushed the man away.

A spokeswoman for the politician said he went to hospital to have X-rays done on his arm.

She said the incident was being investigated by Federal Police.
