Police: Noosa roads overrun by drink drivers

NOOSA'S roads are being overrun by drink-drivers and Police Prosecutor Sergeant Shane Raison has had enough.

Sgt Raison is sick of the weekly Tuesday court sessions filled with dozens of people fronting up to face the music after being charged with drink or drug driving.

He is horrified by four recent drink driving-related car accidents that resulted in grievous bodily harm to otherwise innocent people.

"The numbers are increasing, it's getting worse," a frustrated Sgt Raison said.

The long-time policeman said drink drivers could be pinned down to any specific demographic, except that most are locals.

"The charges are made across the board," he said. "Young, old, male or female."

Sgt Raison acknowledged that a regular police presence in the form of traffic police and random breath testing had failed to dent the frighteningly high figures presenting in courts.

Sgt Raison said he was determined to keep the roads safe and innocent people protected.

"I would love to have no one in this court," he said.
