Noni accused of child exploitation to promote bikini line

NONI Janur is in hot water this week, but not for her antics on The Bachelor but because of accusations she used a young model smoking to promote her bikini line.

The Toowoomba woman started her own bikini label, Balini when she moved to Bali a few years ago.

Her website and Instagram feature beautiful women wearing her designs but one photo in particular is causing controversy.

In the image a 15-year-old girl is shown posing in a bikini and blowing smoke out from her mouth.

Ms Janur told The Courier Mail that the photo was cleared with the model's family.

"The shoot took place at her family home in Bali, with her parent's consent," she said.

"(The model) was 15-years-old at the time this photo was taken, which was two years ago, and she continues to model today.

"The smoke seen in the image was a tobacco-free and legal vapour."

Brisbane lobby group Collective Shout campaigns against exploitation of women and despite the photo having approval from the model's family the group released a statement saying to sexually objectify a girl in that way was child exploitation.

The Advertising Standards Bureau has investigated the photograph, but did not take action because Balini was not founded in Australia and does not directly target an Australian audience.
