No shortage of good land in the Ballina Shire

HOME builders rejoice: there is plenty of vacant land to choose from in the Ballina Shire, with developments at Wollongbar, Cumbalum and Ballina, and a planning proposal on display for a further 500 lots at Skennars Head.

The newest land release is River Oaks.

Developer John Callanan said the 92-lot residential development was approved some years ago, but his company had only bought the land earlier this year after a public tender process.

"All of the necessary planning approvals are in place."

There will be 20 lots on offer in the first stage of River Oaks, which is being marketed by L J Hooker Bal- lina.

Mr Callanan said despite the competition in the marketplace - including the adjacent Ferngrove Estate - he was confident his development would be a success.

"What's good about River Oaks is that it has very large boulevards," Mr Callanan said.

"We also have large blocks; they range from 600sqm to 1000sqm.

"Many developments are trending towards smaller lots, but we are going to stick with the larger lots.

"We've also got about 20 lots with canal frontage and we're in the centre of Ballina.

A percentage of the sale of each block of land will go towards the Northern Rivers Community Foundation's Ballina Sub Fund.

Mr Callanan is one of the directors of the NRCF.

"I have been a director for about seven years, and I love it because this is a foundation that just keeps on giving," he said.
