No new money in budget for Pacific Hwy

THERE were no surprises in yesterday's Federal Budget for Northern NSW drivers still holding out hope for fresh Pacific Hwy funding.

No new money was set aside for the deadly road but as promised, funds were unlocked for North Coast projects flagged in previous budgets.

The 2013-14 round of funding will trigger the next stages of the Nambucca to Urunga, Sapphire to Woolgoolga and Tintenbar to Ewingsdale projects and see the completion of Grafton's Devil's Pulpit upgrade.

The $3.5billion promised for the full duplication in last year's budget remained quarantined until the State Government agreed to match the offer.

It came in a budget that Treasurer Wayne Swan said would make Australia a "stronger, smarter and fairer" country.
