Nippers primed to give best at state and national titles

CUDGEN, Byron Bay and Lennox Head surf lifesaving clubs are continuing to surge towards the upcoming NSW and Australian Championships.

They finished first second and third respectively at the Far North Coast junior branch titles at Cudgen at the weekend.

About 300 nippers turned out for competition from under-8s to under-14s.

Lennox Head 51 competitors who competed in individual and team events.

Jack Alder had a day to remember winning a medal in every event he competed in.

"He played a pivotal role in each of the team events and came away with nine medals," team manager Bob Mills said.

"Special mentions to Shaylla Young and Luke Mounic who received five medals apiece.

"I want to acknowledge the efforts of our under-14 team too; they were competing at their last nippers carnival as juniors.

"Jack, Luke, Shaylla, Angus McMahon, Jake Croft and Guy Falconer shone throughout the competition."

Emily Croft, Nick Mounic, Maisy Miller, Clancy Miller and Maalik Moston were also among the standouts.

Hayley Smith was one of the best from Cudgen with Beau Carter dominating for Byron Bay. He won the under-11 male sprints, flags and ironman event.

Smith had wins in the board, swim and ironwoman.

Brad Hunt (Byron Bay) and Josh Jones (Cudgen) collected medals in the under-13s.
