New iOS 8 bug deletes your files - even from the cloud

APPLE iOS 8 users have discovered a bug in the new OS that causes a settings reset to delete their files from iCloud.

The bug only affects devices running iOS 8, but has so far made the deleted data impossible to recover.

Members of the MacRumors forum, who since the release of the new iPhone have been key in discovering flaws in the new devices, began sharing details of their system wipes on Monday.

The bug has only been reported to affect files that are accessible from the mobile device, which includes files from the iWork suite.

The process being described by those affected includes attempting to reset the devices preferences, commonly done to fix slow-down issues, via Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

The reset completes but then local iWork data is lost and it appears that immediately after the sync process with OS X Maverick the data is deleted from iCloud.

According to MacRumors.com's investigations, files not accessible from the mobile device such as those for Preview and TextEdit remain safe from the bug.

Users with iOS 8 devices may wish to avoid using the Reset All Settings function until clarification comes from Apple.

Apple were contacted but had not responded before deadline.
