EARLIER:

IT ISN'T anything groundbreaking to say that Mackay is a boating city.

Across the region we have some of the best waterways for a day on the water.

So when a special, unique boat makes it to our local shores, heads turn.

An American-made 23-foot vessel, built by Mako Boats, came to Mackay on Saturday morning, and was met by gleaming smiles and ambitious boaties.

Tim Stessl, dealer principal for importing and distribution company Fishing and Leisure Boats, said he hoped that "a couple of hundred" people would get the chance to come and see the one-of-a-kind boat.

"We feel the tides are turning and everything is not coming to an end," Mr Stessl said.

"People want to buy boats again and get out and enjoy their lives."

Mr Stessl said the boat, the first of its kind in Australia, almost came with a fish-catch guarantee.

The boat, worth more than $130,000, is at Mackay Mobile Marine at 43 Cremorne St, North Mackay.

Mr Stessl said Mackay residents were blessed with some of the best boating environments in the world.

Shop owner Dave Skelt said prospective buyers, as well as ambitious dreamers, were welcome to see the impressive vessel up close at the shop.
