SPANISH clay court genius Rafael Nadal is on track to become the first male player to win the same Grand Slam trophy eight times.

The 27-year-old took his record in the French Open to 57-1 after brushing aside ninth seed Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2 6-3 6-1 in the quarter-finals.

That set up a classic semi-final encounter tonight against world No.1 Novak Djokovic who beat Tommy Haas 6-3 7-6 7-5.

Nadal, whose ranking slipped while he had eight months off with a knee problem after last year's Wimbledon, said his concerns about not being at the top of his game for the tournament were starting to disappear.

"So now I am in semi-finals, three matches in a row without losing a set. The last two matches, I only lost one serve," he said.

"That's starting to be very positive numbers. Only numbers, but most important thing at the end is the feeling, and the feeling is completely different. If I was not happy five days ago about my level, today I say I am happy that I am in semi-finals."

The winner will take on either David Ferrer or Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who meet in tonight's other semi-final.
