MyBeachInfo to provide important information for beach goers

A NEW website has been launched by Ballina Shire Council to provide beach-goers with the latest information on beach closures.

General manager Paul Hickey said the MyBeachInfo site had been developed by Ballina and Lismore councils, as part of a NOROC resource sharing project.

He said it was designed to keep people safe this summer.

"The recent spate of shark attacks has highlighted the need to further improve the beach information provided to the public," he said.

"After the proven success of MyRoadInfo, it made perfect sense to use this same technology to relay information on beach closures and openings in the Ballina Shire."

The website features a map of the coastline, displaying icons of beach openings, closures and cautions.

Updates will be made to the website remotely by authorised personnel.

Future enhancements will include the release of a mobile app which will provide similar information, as well as the ability for users to receive a notification when their favourite beaches are updated.

MyBeachInfo also provides links to information on what beaches are patrolled via BeachSafe.org.au.   Visit www.mybeach info.com.au
