ALLANA Kneas was always tired, lazy and constantly getting sick before her encounter with fitness.
The mum of two, originally from New Zealand, has lived in Gladstone since 2009, after moving from Brisbane with her husband and family.
The local stay-home-mum adores her children, Jatticus, two, and baby Atlantis, 18-months-old.
But after giving birth to her baby daughter, Mrs Kneas found herself at an alarming 104kg.
"I couldn't be bothered doing anything," she said. "I was always sick. I'd recover from the flu and then I'd get something else."
Mrs Kneas admitted gaining 20kg with each of her children.
"I was the biggest I'd ever been," she said. "I was borderline type-two diabetic and had borderline high blood pressure."
Thinking of their children, Mrs Kneas said herself and her husband wanted to do something to get healthy.
It was at this point that something simply clicked.
"We wanted to play with our kids at the park instead of just watching them," she said.
From here, Mrs Kneas began her journey to becoming a new person.
"The next step was getting out and running," she said. "I hadn't done anything for a few years and so I downloaded the Couch to 5k app."
For many years, the young mother had contemplated the thought of running but hated the actual concept.
"I started that and I lost 10kg. I stayed there and a few of the mums that I go to mums' group with decided to do boot camp," she said.

During a two-week break, all the mums got together to try a few classes at the gym.
For Mrs Kneas, this was a huge but worthwhile step.
"I fell in love with the gym and haven't left since," she explained.
Since those days, one and a half years ago, Mrs Kneas is a proud 75kg.
"I'm so proud of myself," she said. "The kids were a huge motivator for me and my husband's really supportive as well.
"If I didn't have his support, there's no way I'd get to where I am today."
The staff at the gym also supported her progress.
"It's really motivating to notice they've taken a personal interest there," she said.
The fitness mother is now a regular member at Gladstone's Hub Total Fitness.
Looking back, she said it was one of the best things she had ever done.
"I would pay it five times over. If I could go back and do it all again I definitely would," she said. "I would have not done the boot camp and just gone straight to the gym."
Today, she said she felt amazing, with so much more energy.
"I do treat myself if I want something," she said.
Mrs Kneas said she was a big believer in the 80/20 rule.
"Eighty per cent of the time you can be good, and 20 per cent you can be bad."
With two young children, Mrs Kneas understands how busy mums can get, which is why she treats her gym schedule as an appointment.
To this day, Mrs Kneas keeps those appointments, and having a crèche at Hub Total Fitness has helped greatly.
"That was the main reason I could work out in the first place," she said. "Every day I do cardio without fail, whether going for a run or doing a circuit or yoga."
The seasoned fitness women also does personal training twice a week and weight resistance training about four to five times a week.
"I'm addicted," she said.
Her love for fitness has enveloped her life, so much so that she is hoping to study a Certificate 4 in Personal Training.
"Next year I want to actually do competitions. I want to do a mum's bikini competition - it's a new division in Australian Body Building," she said.
"I'm giving myself a 12-week goal to get my body fat down to where I want it to be."
As for Gladstone, the young mum believed more emphasis could be placed on fitness and health.
"As long as obesity is a huge factor in our society, then it needs to be pushed more," she said.
Mrs Kneas encourages everyone to get into fitness, no matter what age or weight they are at.
"It's the best thing you'll do for yourself and the best investment you can ever put in for yourself," she said.
Overall, her advice is simple.
"It's never too late. You can always improve your quality of life through nutrition and exercise."
