IT'S easy to see why so many people are excited to see an irreverent take on motherhood from Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the duo responsible for writing the first Hangover movie.

With Mila Kunis playing an 'average' mother who becomes fed up with the social expectations of raising a family, there was a lot of potential to tell an interesting and refreshing story.

Unfortunately, Bad Moms has less of the unique mayhem and fun of the first Hangover movie and more of the shallow predictability of other Lucas and Moore penned films such as 2009's extremely forgettable, The Change Up.

The film almost immediately descends into stereotypes: the overworked, unappreciated mother, the lazy husband, the overachieving daughter, the dopey son, the depressed friend, the wild card and the cartoon villain counterpart with her band of loyal followers.

It's an undeniably talented cast portraying a series of paper-thin caricatures. It never tried to live up to the potential of the concept and decided it would be far easier (or dare I say safer) to pander with cliches.

I understand that this is very much a movie with a specific target audience, and sure, most people in this group will find something to laugh at.

However, considering how much more this could have been, even the most easy-to-please movie goer should be demanding more than this shallow picture.

Bad Moms opens nationally tomorrow.
