FOUR local mountain bike riders endured plenty of mud in the Mebbin marathon held on February 28 in Mebbin National Park near Uki.

The riders are part of the Southern Cross University Mountain Bikers (SCUMB). More than 200 riders entered the event.

Shane Russell, of Alstonville, and Bernard Thomas, of Ballina, took on the 55km course.

Bernard finished in a time of 6:11:15, while Shane unfortunately was unable to finish – but he wasn’t alone as the rough conditions took their toll

.
Lennox Head’s David Duverge took part in the 37km race and finished in a time of 5:16:04.
