Motorcycle rider is just like one of the guys on the track
MOTOR racing is a predominantly male sport, but there was one female making waves at the Motorcycle Sportsmen of Qld - Southern Downs Road Race Series at Morgan Park at the weekend.
Tayla Relph took out the 125/250GP Moto 3 category and said she enjoyed competing against the opposite gender.
"It's my fifth year this year and I'm still pretty much the only girl," Relph said.
"Out on track though, the guys treat me like anyone else.
"When I first came in I was a bit slow due to the bike I was riding so they used to help me out a bit.
"I guess it was a bit odd for everyone else. Now they leave me alone though."
Relph said she would like to see more females become involved.
"Pretty much every girl I know, I ask them about becoming involved," she said.
"There are slowly becoming more girls on bikes.
"Hopefully that continues and there are more soon.
"It would be great to see more females racing and for the sport to not be as male-dominated."
Relph said she has one clear idol.
"My favourite rider is definitely Marc Marquez," Relph said.
"I just love the way he rides the bike.
"He is incredible; there is no one like him."
