Moreton Bay drug lab takes police three days to dismantle

POLICE have charged a man after finding 30kg of precursor chemicals needed to make the drug ecstasy in a drug raid in Moreton Bay.

Last Tuesday officers from the Synthetic Drug Operations Team raided a Macleay Island residence and located an active laboratory believed to be producing large quantities of the drugs ecstasy and fantasy.

During the raid police found $3200 in cash, a significant amount of glassware and a large quantity of precursor and ancillary chemicals.

Police say 30kg of one of the precursor chemicals located at the scene could be used to produce approximately 7.5kg of ecstasy.

The laboratory took officers from the Illicit Laboratory Investigation Team three days to dismantle.

The 35-year-old man was charged with producing dangerous drugs and will next appear in Cleveland Magistrates Court on December 8.

The investigation was instigated by intelligence provided by the Australian Crime Commission and involved the Drug and Serious Crime Group and State Crime Command.

"As Australia's national criminal intelligence agency the Australian Crime Commission has the ability to shine a light where the light of traditional law enforcement can't reach, and we work with our partners to share this information and intelligence," Australian Crime Commission Acting State Manager QLD, Ron Ladlay said.

"A crucial element of our job is the information we receive from the public which can help us locate and dismantle these laboratories established within our community. If you notice anything suspicious at all about a residence, we encourage you to contact Crime Stoppers," Detective Superintendent Jon Wacker of the Drug and Serious Crime Group said.
