IT had all the elements of a great story.

A pretty 'French' girl posts a video to Sunshine Coast social media sites pleading for help to find the father of her unborn child.

She tells of her love for a man after a beautiful night together in Mooloolaba.

In the fast-moving online world, it's a story everyone would jump on.

But from yesterday, it was clear there was something not quite right.

The video looked overly edited.

The surname "Amyot" (Am I Hot?) should have been a dead give-away.

The fact that she can't even remember the bloke's name certainly rang alarm bells.

But she was given the benefit of the doubt in good faith.

Of course, the story has now been confirmed as a fake.

A sick marketing plot to 'put Mooloolaba on the map'.

As a long-time resident of the Coast, I don't think this is the sort of publicity we need.

VIDEO: A nicer way to promote Mooloolaba...

Mooloolaba. the place a young girl comes to get pregnant after a fling.

Mooloolaba, the place where you make up lies to market yourself.

Mooloolaba, the place where you put people off from responding to future appeals.

We can do better than that.

Much better.
