CURTIS Island's LNG projects got bigger on Tuesday as Australia Pacific LNG unloaded the first of its project modules to arrive from Indonesia.

The four modules were delivered over the weekend, and will be used as the foundation structure for processing trains and supporting infrastructure.

Australia Pacific LNG Downstream project director David Lundeen said it was a significant milestone for the project.

"The arrival marks the start of the next stage of construction on Curtis Island," Mr Lundeen said.

"The site preparation work is complete, the concrete foundations have been laid and we are now ready for the larger components of the facility to be constructed."

Over the next 18 months, 69 modules will arrive from the module construction yard in Batam, Indonesia, which is managed by Bechtel.

Bechtel Gladstone general manager Kevin Berg said the south-east Asian production was just one element of the APLNG development in the region.

More than 2300 people are now working on APLNG's site on Curtis Island, with the company awarding $2.4 billion in contracts in Gladstone.
