The menacing 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series

THIS week for my weekly blog, I am featuring a menacing 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series.

Up front sits a 6.2-litre V8 engine derived from the standard CLK 63 AMG, but tuned to produce a staggering 373kW (500hp) at 6800rpm and 630Nm of torque (465 lb-ft of torque) at 5250rpm.

Connected to this monstrous engine is a seven-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel for manual control.

By today's standards it's not the fastest transmission available, but it gives an awesome crackle and pop on upshifts and downshifts.

To the standard eye, this may just look like a standard CLK Mercedes, but don't be fooled! Comparing it with the standard CLK 63 AMG, Mercedes removed both of the back seats, the sat-nav and some of the airbags.

It also has carbon fibre in almost every place you look. The result of all this is that it is around 30 kilograms heavier than the standard car.

This is due to the extremely flared wheel arches, the wider rear axle and a differential made from lead and granite.

Some other features that this limited edition Mercedes is equipped with includes 19-inch AMG forged aluminium wheels, a carbon fibre rear lip spoiler, MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, a front and rear stabiliser bar, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, electronic brake force distribution, emergency braking assist, a post-collision safety system, self-levelling xenon headlights, tyre pressure monitoring, a black leather interior with AMG Bucket Seats, a Harman/Kardon premium stereo system, and much more.

When Mercedes launched the CLK 63 AMG Black Series they stated that it would be made in a limited 500-unit production run, and only 32 of these beauties arrived on Australian shores. Considering they are very rare and very popular with collectors, you can currently purchase a Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series for about $130,000.
