McInnes confident leading into Quade Cooper fight

THERE is not much Jack McInnes can do now but wait.

The Hervey Bay boxer is in the final hours before his huge bout against Quade Cooper, which could double as his last-ever fight.

McInnes and Cooper will meet in the seventh of the huge nine-fight card, headlined by the long-awaited rematch between Anthony Mundine and Danny Green.

For McInnes, it has been a whirlwind three weeks.

He accepted the fight on short notice, almost withdrew due to an elbow injury, was talked back into fighting Cooper and put himself through hell to make weight.

As photos of Thursday's weigh-in circulated he was subjected to endless ridicule and jokes about his figure, which looked worse when standing next to a professional athlete of Cooper's stature.

Most judges overlooked the 22-year-old plasterer's involvement in combat sports, which includes about 50 Muay Thai fights and a history of being the underdog.

Coach Craig Glover said they spent the day ensuring McInnes was mentally ready for the challenge.

"Yeah, we're feeling pretty good - ready to rock," Glover said as they arrived at an Adelaide Oval expected to pack in 24,000 fans.

"We're confident."

Glover said McInnes should not be fazed by the enormous crowd or occasion, and if he was there was a simple way to bring his head back into the game.

"You know what thye say, the first punch will bring him back," Glover said.

"We'll try to block it all out.

"We're keen to get it on and get it all done."

McInnes and Cooper will square off about 9.30pm dependent on if the event runs on time, and the length or preceding bouts.
