Man accused of lighting blazes in bushfire season denied bail

AN ACCUSED arsonist who allegedly lit several rural properties in the heat of NSW bushfire season has been refused bail.

Strike Force Toni was established last month to hunt the culprits of deliberately lit fires around the state's north-west.

A 22-year-old man was arrested at Gunnedah and refused bail in the Tamworth court on Wednesday.

He faces charges of arson, break and enter and trespassing.

Police allege the fires were lit to destroy evidence relating to stealing offences.

Investigations into other fires in the area are continuing.
