Man hospitalised with head injuries after alleged assault

A MAN has been hospitalised for head injuries and his alleged attacker arrested and charged following an incident outside the in Ballina on Saturday morning.

Police said two men aged 29 and 34 became involved in argument outside a hotel on Moon Street about 3am on Saturday

Witnesses have told police the older man allegedly punched the younger man to the head, and he fell to the ground, hitting his head on the footpath.

Officers attached to Richmond Local Area Command were contacted and launched an investigation into the incident.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers.

The younger man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for head injuries, being taken to Lismore Base Hospital, where he was in a stable condition.

Fractured eye socket and was being monitored for bleeding to the brain.

A 34-year-old man attended Ballina Police Station on Saturday morning where he was arrested and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail to appear before Ballina Local Court on Thursday June 12.
