Man assaulted sister-in-law: court

A MUSLIM man, who attacked his sister-in-law because she took his wife to the beach without his permission, is awaiting sentence in a Sydney Court.

Ismail Belghar made headlines when he was granted a judge-only trial on the basis it would be difficult to find jury members who were not offended by his religious and moral beliefs.

That decision was overturned in the NSW Supreme Court last week and Belghar was ordered to appear before a jury.

However, on Tuesday, he pleaded guilty in a Sydney court to assaulting and detaining his sister-in-law.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the court heard that Belghar, 36, believed he had absolute authority over his sister-in-law and felt her behaviour was "abhorrent".

Belghar, who reportedly told police he had acted out of love for his wife, will be sentenced on a date to be set.
