Fatal crash victim was staying with friend in Millmerran

UPDATE: A 65-year-old Millmerran man has been confirmed as the victim of a fatal crash on a country road, south-west of the town.

Police said Thomas Sluzenski was a former Cairns resident who had been staying in the area with a friend.

Mr Sluzenski died after being thrown from a Ford Falcon he was driving on Cypress Ave, about 35km from Millmerran, in the Millmerran Woods area.

He was found by a passer-by about midday on Wednesday.

Police believe the single-vehicle-crash occurred some time either Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

Officer-in-charge of Millmerran station, Sergeant Steve Ryan, said it appeared the man's vehicle had overturned at least once before coming to rest on its wheels.

Mr Sluzenski's body was found beside the car.

The crash came a week after 59-year-old Millmerran-area resident Eugene Senior was killed in a crash south-west of the town on the Gore Hwy.

EARLIER: Police have identified the man killed in a fatal traffic crash near Millmerran as a 65-year-old Cairns man.

Emergency services were called to the scene, about 35km from Millmerran, about noon yesterday.

Millmerran police officer-in-charge Sergeant Steve Ryan said investigations were continuing.

UPDATE: A man has been found dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash about 35km south-west of Millmerran.

Police were notified by a passing motorist of the Cypress Ave incident about noon today.

Millmerran police officer-in-charge Sergeant Steve Ryan said the man was the sole occupant of the Ford Falcon sedan.

Sgt Ryan said the man had been thrown from the vehicle.

His body was found beside the car.

It appeared as though the vehicle had overturned at least once before landing on its wheels.

The car sustained major damage.

"He has lost control, left the roadway and collided with a ditch and some trees," Sgt Ryan said.

The crash is believed to have happened last night or early this morning.

Efforts are being focused on confirming the man's identity.

Sgt Ryan urged motorists to be mindful of the fatal five causes of crashes, including inattention, speeding, seatbelts, drink driving and fatigue.

EARLIER: Police are investigating a single vehicle crash near Millmerran in which a man has died.

A passing motorist notified police about noon today after spotting the vehicle on its side in Cypress Ave.

Millmerran police officer-in-charge Steve Ryan said the man, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

It is unknown when the fatal incident occurred.
