Malthouse not looking for any excuses now

AFL: After a last-quarter fadeout in the round one loss to Port Adelaide, Carlton coach Mick Malthouse says injuries will not be an excuse if his team is beaten by Richmond at the MCG tonight.

Dual Brownlow medallist Chris Judd (achilles), fellow midfielders Andrew Carrazzo (calf) and Dennis Armfield (knee) are still unavailable for selection, while Lachie Henderson (leg), Dale Thomas (ankle, pictured) and Matthew Kreuzer (foot) are all short of full fitness after disrupted pre-seasons.

"We're not there to say this will cost us wins and losses, this is just simply a fact of life," Malthouse said. "We haven't got 22 players in that position (injured), we've got half a dozen."

Utility Andrew Walker is also out after pleading guilty to a rough conduct charge in the Port game.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick admitted he had spoken to recruit, former Carlton ruckman Shaun Hampson, about the Blues players and game plan.
