Why a major chain will close its store in Mackay

UPDATE: Lincraft customer Kellie Pearce is "very sad" to see the Lincraft store in Mackay close.

Ms Pearce was in the store to get supplies before the store closed on September 18.

"I think it is very sad. I don't know how the other places can survive being so expensive," she said.

"They have a great selection of yarn I found, especially for up here in North Queensland."

Ms Pearce does crochet and visits Lincraft to purchase yarn.

"When you are buying 20 balls of yarn. It can make it very expensive," she said.

"How many do they have here 10. That's ten more people without a job. And that's really sad, 10 families."

INITIAL: Lincraft in Mackay is closing.

The giant craft and fabric store at the corner of the Bruce Hwy and Heaths Rd is having a closing down sale.

Mackay acting manager Bianca Godden said the store would close on September 18.

"They (the property managers) just renewed the lease with someone else," Ms Godden said.

"At this stage we are not sure if we will re-open in Mackay."

Ms Godden said gift cards would be honoured in "neighbouring" stores.
