Former Rocky muso finds love after brave appearance on TV
GOING on a blind date is a pretty nerve-racking experience, but imagine knowing it will be broadcast on national television.
Former Rockhampton photographer and musician Reece Prideaux knows the feeling, having recently appeared on popular 7 Network reality TV show First Dates Australia which features strangers looking for love going on blind dates at a Sydney restaurant.
The 22-year-old, who now lives in Brisbane, appeared in episode six of the series which was filmed last year and aired on March 9.
His date? A 21-year-old sixth generation circus performer named Dakota from New South Wales.
Mr Prideaux said appearing on the show was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, but he wasn't actually looking for love when approached to take part.
"I had a profile on a talent agency website that I have used to apply for some movie and short film roles and I got contacted through that," he said.
"I think the producers had a lot of girl applicants for the show but not as many guys as they needed hence why they had to reach out.
"I just did it for a bit of fun. I thought why not? The guys from the production seemed like cool guys so I did it for a fun weekend in Sydney."
Mr Prideaux said he didn't exactly walk away from the date head over heels in love.
"Honestly I had no idea what to expect. The producers asked me a bunch of questions over Skype to try to identify what sort of girl I was after so I knew they were probably going to find someone a little out of the ordinary," he said.
"They cut out all of the awkward pauses in the date. We haven't seen each other since and hardly talked. We didn't go on a second date or keep in contact.
"Her circus is actually in town this week in Brisbane but I don't plan on going."
But finding love isn't out of the question for Mr Prideaux, as little did he know he had already met the girl of his dreams before featuring on the show.
"I have a girlfriend now. Her name is Taylah. I actually watched my First Dates episode with her and her family," he said.
"We had a bit of a laugh about it.
"I met her just before I went on the show. We have been together for about five months.
"Taylah is awesome. She's a medical student and works for an app development company and lets me trial all my new photo shoot ideas with her."
Mr Prideaux said he hadn't been approached by any other TV shows or agencies since his appearance, but his mates wouldn't soon forget his 15 minutes of fame.
"I just haven't stopped hearing about it from my friends," he said.
