Does Lorna Graham feel like she's getting old? Harley!
RETIREMENT is all about life in the fast lane for Fernleigh's Lorna Graham.
Ms Graham, 87, was spotted among a growing crowd at the inaugural North Coast Seniors Expo yesterday morning.
She was having a ball testing out products from Northern Rivers Mobility and Scooter Solutions, one of more than 20 stalls at the Lismore Showground.
"I'd more or less use it to just get around the house, but I think it'd do the job," Ms Graham laughed.
"I came to have a look for a scooter because it's been a bit hard getting around and I really like this one."
Ms Graham was offered a matching tattoo, but she said she'd go with a stick-on version.
"All the motorbikes go riding through my street all the time, maybe I can sneak in with them. They'll all be jealous," she said with a grin.
Centrelink, Compassionate Bereavement Services, Service NSW and Newcastle Permanent banking were just some of the stalls providing handy information.
For those chasing adrenaline pumping pursuits, Lake Ainsworth Sport and Recreation Centre was on hand to spruik archery, canoeing, sailing and even a flying fox.
Seniors, carers and those approaching retirement age attending the expo were pleased with the variety of services on offer.
John Bancroft, 49, was part of the expo's organising committee and said he was expecting a good turn- out as the day progressed.
"We could have about 350 people through the door, which is a great effort considering this is the expo's first year," he said.
"It's all about seniors finding the right services for them and the businesses offering their help to potential customers.
"The average age in Lismore is about 36 and rising, and Ballina is twenty years higher at 56, so the expo is great for the area.
The expo coincides with the 56th annual NSW Seniors Week, which aims to celebrate the life, achievements and community engagement of the state's citizens over 60 from March 15 to 23.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders over the age of 50 and people over 50 that have a lifelong disability are also taking part.
