Ballina's 'Poppa' moves from touch footy star to TV star

BRUCE "Poppa" Gallaher is a bit of a star already, being a legend in Ballina touch footy and Golden Oldies rugby circles. But now he will be a television star.

Poppa is one of a number of locals who volunteered to be part of a television advertisement for the Ballina District Community Services Association.

Filming for the Look Out For Me campaign began last week.

The advertisement, due to air at the end of July, promotes the Look Out For Me campaign, which is all about looking out for each other and not ignoring the warning signs of functional decline.

It says looking out for your neighbour, or asking someone to look out for you, can help to keep you independent and stronger for longer.

Changes in health can lead to a reduced ability to perform everyday tasks and without early intervention, this can lead to something more serious.

The ad will be broadcast on Prime and NBN.

BDCSA representatives thanked the volunteers who took part. "Without their support and spirit, the campaign would not have been possible."
