A BUDERIM teenager's legacy has inspired a blood donation team so big it's rivalling the likes of the Australian Army and the Royal Australian Air Force.

Team Adem is the fourth largest Red Cross Blood Donation Club Red team in Australia, sitting ahead of Telstra, the Royal Australian Navy and the Department of Defence in the top 10.

The group was started in 2011 by the late Adem Crosby, a much-loved Buderim teenager who died in May 2013 after a two-and-a-half year battle with leukemia.

Even after Adem's death, the donation group has grown as people from all over the country hear about his

"The Sunshine Coast is really leading the way in getting the word out there (on blood donation)," Adem's father, Brent, said.

"We have supporters from all over Australia who have heard about the team through social media or people who spread the word.

"When we're up against the Army and the ATO in this challenge, then there's little Team Adem - it shows we're not so little any more.

"We're dedicated to doing what we do and we're appreciative of everyone who helps us."

So far this year members of Team Adem have made 1213 blood donations, ranking fourth behind the Australian Army tallied at 2103, the ATO at 1690 and the RAAF on 1428.

"We just want to help more people. It would be fantastic if one day we could become the largest blood donation team," Brent said.

To ensure the flow of blood continues, Team Adem will hold a Blood Donation Day on Saturday, July 19 at the Maroochydore and Nambour Blood Donation centres.

New and existing blood donors can donate from 7.30am-2pm.

Phone Brent on 0412 696 237 if you'd like to get involved, or visit for more information.

To become a Team Adem blood donor simply let the nurses know when you next donate that you would like your donation to go to the team.
