Lions run is on June 12

THE 6th annual Ballina Lions Fun Run-Walk will be held on Sunday, June 12, starting from the Missingham Bridge Reserve, and will this year be a fundraiser for the Ballina Shire Our House fundraising effort.
Marshalling commences at 8am and the first of 12 events will start at 9am.
This popular event, which attracted nearly 800 participants last year, is open to all comers and includes a 10km open run for men and women, and a 5km open run for men and women.
An over 50s category also is included for men and women, plus events for boys and girls aged 12 to 17, and 12 and under.
There will also be 5km walk for individuals and families.
The course is the same as last year, starting at Missingham Bridge Reserve then going over Missingham Bridge to encircle Shaws Bay before returning to the reserve.
The 10km runners will cover the course twice.
The course has been certified by Athletics Australia.
An entry form will first appear in the Northern Star on May 19, and on later dates in the Advocate.
Entry fees range from $5 to $20 and Ballina Lions Club has this year decided that the net proceeds will go to benefit the Ballina Shire Our House fundraising project.
This project, which is an initiative of 11 community service organisations in Ballina Shire including Ballina Lions Club, has as its theme “Help Ballina to help Our House”. The aim is to raise $100,000 in 2011 towards the cost of constructing 20 low-cost units of motel-style accommodation opposite Lismore Base Hospital for families of cancer patients and sick children.
The project will also have communal areas for families and adults, shared kitchens, therapy gardens, children’s playground and a barbecue area.
Each unit will have a bathroom and tea and coffee facilities and can sleep three to five people.
The $4.8 million complex, which has been partly funded through Federal, State and Cancer Council grants totalling $3.6m, will have an ongoing effect for thousands of people on the Northern Rivers.
It will service the Lismore Base catchment area covering Ballina to Tenterfield and Maclean to Mullumbimby
