Lions to hunt down victory against Suns on Saturday

THE Brisbane Lions will go into this Saturday's QClash with the Gold Coast Suns in the unusual position of sitting behind their Queensland rivals on the ladder.

The Lions are yet to register a win this campaign, while the Suns have a 1-1 record.

Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff is still smarting from the Suns' historic win in 2011.

And he hinted yesterday his side would take an underdogs' mentality into the local derby at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

The Lions' form so far has been patchy, losing by 68 points to the Bulldogs in round one, before falling 19 short against Adelaide.

The Suns predictably lost to premier Sydney by 41 points last Saturday, after surprising St Kilda by 13 in round one.

"They played some really good footy that night (in the QClash 1 in 2011) and they're in some really good form at the moment," Rockliff said.

"So we're the ones that have got to go out and hunt them this weekend."

Despite winning the NAB Cup, Rockliff said his team still had a long way to go towards earning the competition's respect.

He said kicking straighter would help.

"We kicked four goals 12 after half-time (against Adelaide), and if we kick more goals, it's a different type of game," he said.

Suns assistant coach Matthew Primus said shutting down Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger would be crucial.
"Leuenberger handled two guys pretty well last week," he said.
