The Lion King Brisbane season expands to 2015 to meet demand

A WHOPPING 48 new shows have been added to The Lion King's upcoming Brisbane season to meet demand.

The unexpected response to yesterday's general ticket sale swamped QPAC's booking website, with fans queuing online for hours trying to secure seats.

The musical will now play QPAC's Lyric Theatre, the seating of which will be restructured to accommodate the production's large performer-operated puppets, for 18 weeks.

Tickets for the 48 new shows will go on sale on Tuesday, with box office details to be posted on the show's official Facebook page on Monday.

"As a result of the amazing and overwhelming response at the box office yesterday, we have worked overnight and this morning with our friends at QPAC to confirm that extension," executive producer James Thane wrote on Facebook today.

"The way Brisbane has embraced the show has taken us completely by surprise. We are incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and have moved as quickly as we can to make more tickets available."

The Brisbane season cannot be extended any further as the show is due to return to Melbourne in February, 2015.
