Lennox Head too good for Ballina

LENNOX Head got on top of Ballina in the local derby of Far North Coast rugby union last weekend, but Ballina still remains a place above the Trojans on the ladder after round three.


Lennox Head piled on 27 points to Ballina’s 19.


For Lennox, point-scorers were Phil Tyler, Tony Buchanan and Harry Witt with tries, Adam Gordon kicked two conversions and two penalty goals, while Tony Buchanan converted a try.


Ballina’s points came from tries to Chris Long, Liam Preston and Ben Robinson, with Adam Fisher and Luke Watling kicking conversions.


Meanwhile, Wollongbar-Alstonville defeated Southern Cross University 23-0.


Point-scorers for the Pioneers were Scott Burgess, Nick Dufficy, Jason Higgins (tries), Ben Damen (conversion, two penalty goals).


The ladder after the third round is: Lismore 14, Ballina 10, Lennox Head 9, Wollongbar-Alstonville 5, Casino 4, Grafton 0, Southern Cross University 0.


Reserve grade scores were: Lennox Head 6 d Ballina 0; Lismore 19 d Casino 12; Wollongbar-Alstonville 41 d Southern Cross 7.
