BASKETBALL: NBA champion LeBron James is renowned for his scoring ability.

After all, he moved into ninth place on the competition's list of all-time scorers when he dropped another 44 in the Cleveland Cavaliers' 116-105 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

But the 31-year-old has now become the first front-court player to crack 7000 assists.

That means he now has 27,000 points, 7000 assists and 7000 rebounds.

"I don't know what to say ... That's the triple threat of me - to rebound, to pass, to put the ball in the hole a little bit,” he said.

"It's just an honour. I'm just blessed. To be the only one to put up those numbers is pretty cool because this is the game I love. It's the game I watched my whole life growing up, so it's incredible.”

The Cavs take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday from 10am (AEST).
