AN information session on the proposal to rezone large parcels of land at Cumbalum will be held at the Lennox Head Cultural and Community Centre this Saturday, March 10.
The land parcels, known as Precinct A and B and located south from Ross Lane to Cumbalum, could allow housing for as many as 9000 people.
Cr Jeff Johnson raised the idea to hold the information session at Ballina Shire Council's February meeting.
"When I raise this issue with people in Lennox, they have no idea what's being proposed," he said.
"When I explain what is being proposed, people are very concerned.
"The idea of building a whole new town on rural and agricultural land is of great concern. The last thing we need is more urban sprawl on farming land."
While saying he was not against development, he said he was also pleased the councillors had supported his motion.
"The community needs to be involved in the process so that we get a better outcome," he said.
"New residential subdivisions need to be of the highest standard."
The information session will be held from 10am and everyone is urged to attend.
