Le-Ba boys show club has a great future

THE future of the Lennox-Ballina Board-riders Club is in safe hands after recent success on the Gold Coast.

Le-Ba's second-string team took out the Volcom Junior Kirra Teams Challenge, the biggest junior tag-team event in Australia.

The club sent two teams with Le-Ba finishing first and second out of the 26 teams entered from NSW and Queensland that competed.

Dan Hosking, Aeran Thomas, Eli Carr, Kye Healey, Rhys Tatum and Kye Sommerville were in the team that came first.

They finished with five first place finishes and a fourth to win in convincing fashion.

"It's an unbelievable effort," club coach Tony O'Brien said.

"It's the first time in the history of the event that a back-up team has won and the other has finished second.

"The success of the club can be seen in the depth of the juniors.

"We've always focused on junior development so the result is very pleasing."

Luke Condon, Jake Snellgrove, Mitch Kay, Sam Morgan, Regan Martinovich and Zac Wightman were in the second-placed team.

The format of the event saw six surfers compete in a team with two each from Under-14s, Under-16s and Under-18s.
