Lanning tops WBBL batting rankings

CRICKET: There have been plenty of stand-out performances so far in the second staging of the Women's Big Bash League.

The WBBL is taking a break until New Year's Eve with Meg Lanning's Melbourne Stars on top of the ladder on net run rate ahead of the Hobart Hurricanes.

Both have three wins and a loss from their first four games and it's no surprise to see Southern Stars captain Lanning on top of the official player rankings for batting.

Lanning has scored 122 runs at an average of 40.66, including 66 not out and 33.

The Aussie star has been outscored, though, by New Zealand's Sophie Devine, who has struck 127 at 63.50, having hit scores of 43, 41 not out and 43 for the Adelaide Strikers.

Devine is second in the rankings behind Lanning.

Her Kiwi teammate, Amy Satterthwaite, has also been in great form for the Hurricanes and she has moved to the top of the all-rounder rankings.

Satterthwaite's innings of 52 not out and 45 not out helped Hobart complete the double over the Melbourne Renegades last weekend.

She has also done well with the ball, taking four wickets, including a return of 2-22 against the Renegades.

Brisbane Heat's Beth Mooney had a poor start to the campaign but her 67 off just 46 balls at the WACA moved her up to fourth on the batting list.

In the bowling rankings South African star Marizanne Kapp has been the star, taking five wickets at 14.40 in the opening four matches for the Sydney Sixers.

The Women's Big Bash League resumes on December 31 with Adelaide Strikers entertaining the Perth Scorchers.

That will be followed by the Melbourne derby between the Stars and the Renegades on New Year's Day.
