Knights hit by illness in lead-up to Cowboy clash

IT HASN'T been the best week for the Knights.

After suffering a 32-0 hammering against Manly last Sunday, illness ripped through the squad ahead of tonight's clash against the Cowboys at Hunter Stadium.

Chris Houston, Akuila Uate and James McManus were among those hit by the bug, but the trio is expected to play.

"We got sick early in the week and are past the worst of it now," Houston said.

"I think by we should be pretty right to go."

The Knights were further bolstered with hooker Danny Buderus getting through his first contact session since back surgery.

And Jarrod Mullen completed Saturday's session despite an issue with his knee.

Willie Mason (calf) and Timana Tahu (knee) limited their training workloads over the weekend.

Houston said his teammates were stunned by their efforts against Manly, with coach Wayne Bennett saying he was embarrassed by the showing.

Cowboys fullback Matt Bowen admitted his form so far this season has been below his usual high standards.

"In the first game, it was my attack and on the weekend I got involved a bit more, but defensive-wise I was pretty poor," he said.
