Kings end the Taipans' show

THE Sydney Kings ended the Cairns Taipans' playoff hopes with an impressive 80-74 win in Cairns on Saturday.

Needing a win to stay alive, the Snakes were overpowered by the Kings from the outset.

It was a gutting result for coach Aaron Fearne and his team, who were written off at the start of the season as wooden spoon favourites.

"It's pretty disappointing, we needed that to keep the playoff hope alive," Fearne said.

"We've had some unbelievable wins and some disappointing losses. But really, honestly, I'm pretty proud of what we've been able to accomplish."
