Kendrick Lamar, Mark Ronson, Taylor Swift rule the Grammys
PUTTING out some of the catchiest songs of last year, it's little surprise Taylor Swift and Mark Ronson have taken out the top two gongs at today's Grammy Awards.
Swift's 1989 was named Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album of the Year, adding to the Best Music VIdeo gong Swift won before the awards broadcast for her girl-power clip Bad Blood.
Ronson's Uptown Funk was named Record of the Year and its title track, performed by Bruno Mars also won Best Pop Group/Duo Performance.
Fellow Brit Ed Sheeran won his first Grammy for his hit ballad Thinking Out Loud.
Rapper Kendrick Lamar, who will be in the country next month to headline Byron Bluesfest, was the other big winner of the night taking home four gongs including Best Rap Album.
Unfortuantely all four Australian acts nominated failed to take home a gong. Courtney Barnett was pipped by Meghan Trainor for Best New Artist while Keith Urban lost Best Country Album to Chris Stapleton.
During the lengthy, glittering ceremony Lady Gaga paid tribute to the late David Bowie, while various musicians celebrated the legacy of Person of the Year Lionel Richie.
