Karl Stefanovic forced off TV after marriage split

BREAKFAST television king Karl Stefanovic will be "rested" for at least a month, with Nine management forcing the star to take a holiday in light of his recent split with wife Cassandra Thorburn.

But the Today host has told NewsCorp he is taking the order in stride.

"I think any of us would be happy to take a holiday at the end of the year," he said.

Nine boss Darren Wick said the decision to bench Stefanovic was made so the beloved host could return fresh next year.

"Previously what we've done with Karl is that he has often shot 60 Minutes stories over the summer," Wick told the Daily Telegraph.

"We don't want him doing that this year -- just have a break.

"He's going to do that and come back fresh next year."

Stefanovic and Thorburn have been married 21 years and share three children.
