Hat-trick of tries as North Coast thrashes Central Qld
LENNOX Head rugby union player Justin Bleakley scored a hat-trick of tries as the North Coast Under-15s thrashed Central Queensland 42-3 in the second round of the Junior Gold Cup.
Bleakley has been one of the best for his side so far with North Coast hosting its first game of the new competition at Lyle Park, Wollongbar, yesterday.
"The boys played really well, they were up 21-3 at half-time," North Coast co-ordinator Tony Pennisi said.
"Everyone got a really good run and it was an excellent performance."
Captain Aengus Chapman was again strong for North Coast as was Declan Leaney.
Zac Cross had a big day with the boot, kicking plenty of conversions.
The win puts North Coast at the top of the table after a 25-10 win over Brisbane Orange in the opening round.
"We hoped for a good start but expected we'd be in a real fight in every game," Pennisi said.
"The boys are playing a structured game that we hoped would worry some of the top teams."
The Under-17s also played and went down 16-12 to Central Queensland in a hard-fought contest.
Dan Boardman scored a brace of tries while Ryan Graham, Joel Cooper and Connor Winchester also played well.
North Coast has a bye this weekend before taking on Western Australia at Williams Reserve, Lennox Head, the following Sunday.
