Just a little lost: NZ seal found in NSW cow paddock

A SEAL has taken a wrong turn, ending up in the middle of a cow paddock in southern NSW.

A stunned cattle farmer found the New Zealand fur seal waddling through his property, 15km from the ocean.

Celebrity vet Dr Chris Brown shared photos of the lost seal on his Facebook page saying it is believed he followed fish up a freshwater creek before becoming disorientated.

"Unsure of how to find his way back to the ocean, he then decided to walk and waddle his way back home," he says.

Wildlife officers were called to the scene and quickly offered the stranded seal a lift back to the coast.

Dr Brown says they captured the seal without needing sedation and drove him to the Bega River mouth where he was released.

"With a full stomach and a full list of stories to share with the family, he soon swam off, wisely choosing a life of salt instead of soil this time..."
