Jury overturns grievous bodily harm conviction

DALLAS Kahl has succeeded in his bid to overturn his conviction for the New Year's Day attack which left Bellingen's Jake Brook with permanent brain damage.

Police alleged Kahl, 30, threw the punch which caused Jake, 19, to fall backwards and hit his head.

In September 2011, Kahl was sentenced to five years jail with a non-parole period of three years after a jury found him guilty of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.

Within weeks his lawyers successfully appealed for a re-trial and he was released on bail.

This week he appeared in the Coffs Harbour District Court where a jury today returned a verdict of not-guilty.
